Small food safe dowel.

 

Step one - Body

Take 65g of black modelling paste, roll into a teardrop shape.

Sit on the work surface and gently flatten the top with your finger tip.

Take 4g of flesh coloured modelling paste, roll out to a thickness of around 1-2  mm. Take a sharp knife and trim to the shape shown.  Take the veining end of the Dresden tool and gently score lines across the paste as shown.

Wet the back of the flesh paste with a small amount of water and stick into place as shown. Gently rub your finger around the edge to smooth the paste to the body.

Mix one drop of flesh gel with a couple of drops of clear alcohol. Paint and shade the flesh coloured paste as shown. You can remove any excess colour with a clean paintbrush and some alcohol.

Step two - Legs

Take 12g of black modelling paste and divide equally into two. Roll each piece into a short teardrop. Bend the paste over. Push out the heel and smooth with your fingers. Roll the paste between your thumb and finger to narrow the ankle and lengthen the leg slightly as shown.

Shape and smooth each foot with your fingers.

Stick the legs into place as shown.

Step three - Stem and arms.

Take 2g of green modelling paste, divide equally into two and roll each piece into a ball. Roll one ball into a thin stem. Roll the second ball into a teardrop and flatten with your fingertip. Use the veining end of the Dresden tool to mark the centre of the leaf as shown

Take 2g of black modelling paste and divide equally into two. Roll each piece into a short teardrop. Narrow slightly at one end by rolling the paste between your thumb and finger to create the hand. Gently flatten and smooth the hand with your fingertips. Again roll the paste between your thumb and finger to lengthen the arm as shown.

First stick the stem into place on the centre of the body. Then attach each arm. Lastly stick the leaf into place as shown.

Step four - Wings

Take 45g of red paste. Divide equally into two and roll each piece into a teardrop. Flatten each piece gently with the palm of your hand. Smooth and flatten the tip of wing thinning the paste.

Use the large end of the balling tool to indent each wing as shown. Divide 3g of black paste into ten small pieces and roll each one into a ball. Apply a small amount of water to the centre of each indent and stick the 'spots' into place.

Stick the wings into place on each side of the body as shown.

Use the end of a cocktail stick to texture the wing. Start at the bottom of each wing and work your way upwards.

Repeat the texturing on both wings.

Step five - Head

Take 50g of black modelling paste, roll it into a ball. Roll your finger gently across the bottom of the ball to indent a Flatten the paste slightly with the palm of your hand and smooth to the shape shown with your fingertips.

Use the large end of the PME balling tool to indent two eye sockets as shown. Move the tool around in small circular motions to open up the sockets to the desired size.

Use the veining end of the Dresden tool to mark the mouth. Indent each corner of the mouth with the small end of the Cerart K502 balling tool.

Roll two small sausages of grey paste tapered to a point at each end.

Take 4g of white paste, divide it equally into two, and roll each piece into a ball.

Thinly roll out the pink paste and use the size 3.5 piping tip to cut out two circles.

Thinly roll out the blue paste and use the 10mm circle cutter to cut out two circles.

Thinly roll out 1g of black modelling paste and use the 5mm circle cutter to cut out two circles.

Lastly thinly roll out 1g of white paste  and use the size 2 piping tip to cut out two circles.

Stick the eye balls into place first. Then stick on each iris, mix one drop of blue gel colour with a drop of clear alcohol and paint a thin line around the edge of each iris.

Stick on the pupils and white highlights, then stick each eyelid into place as shown.

Lastly stick the pink cheeks into place.

Take 2g of black modelling paste, divide equally into two. Roll each piece into a elongated teardrop. Curl over the thinnest end of each antenna as shown.

Take 2g of brown modelling paste, roll out into a long thin strand.

Use a sharp knife to trim the paste into a rectangle. Use a piping tip to cut semi circles from the top of the rectangle creating the crown as shown.

Gently push the food safe skewer down into the body. apply a small amount of water to the top of the neck and slide the head down into place.

Use the small end of the balling tool to create twp indents on top of the head and stick the antenna into place.

Dust the crown with the light gold lustre dust and wrap around the antenna sticking it into place as you go.

Step six - Flower

Take 4g of white modelling paste and divide roughly into 7 pieces. Roll each piece into a small teardrop and flatten with your fingertip. Roll a small ball of orange modelling paste. (coloured by adding a small amount of red gel colour to yellow paste.)

Gather 5 or 7 (whichever you prefer) petals together and stick into place. Stick the orange centre into place. Mix one drop of yellow gel colour with a drop of clear alcohol and paint the centre of the flower as shown. 

Paint the inside of the mouth with a small amount of white gel colour.
